Adharaneeya Vega are the natural urges of the body which should never be voluntarily suppressed.
These are physiological reflexes essential for maintaining health and doshic balance.
Suppressing these urges can lead to the vitiation of doshas, diseases, and disturbance in Agni.
As per Ashtanga Hridaya Sutrasthana Chapter 4 (Vegaadharana Vijnaneeya Adhyaya), 13 natural urges are described as adharaneeya.

This shloka enlists the natural urges that must not be forcibly controlled or stopped.
The wise person (shastraj├▒a) should avoid suppression of these urges.
1. VATA VEGA (URGE TO PASS FLATUS)
Suppression can lead to:
Abdominal distention, pain, constipation, bloating, and flatulence.
It disturbs Apana Vata, affecting lower GIT and reproductive systems.
2. MOOTRA VEGA (URGE TO URINATE)
Suppression can lead to:
Urinary tract infections, bladder disorders, pain in the bladder region, kidney stones.
Increases Vata and Kapha in the urinary tract.
3. PUREESHA VEGA (URGE TO DEFECATE)
Suppression causes:
Constipation, headache, flatulence, belching, and even cardiac strain.
Leads to Agnimandya and Apana Vata imbalance.
4. KSHAVATHU VEGA (URGE TO SNEEZE)
Suppression can cause:
Headaches, facial paralysis, neck stiffness, eye and nasal disorders.
It obstructs the normal Udana Vata flow in head and neck.
5. CHARDI VEGA (URGE TO VOMIT)
Natural vomiting relieves the body from toxins.
Suppression leads to:
Breathlessness, skin diseases, nausea, and poisoning.
Involves imbalance of Kapha and Pitta doshas.
6. JRIMBHA VEGA (URGE TO YAWN)
Suppression may cause:
Facial stiffness, vision disturbance, tiredness.
Yawning is a response to fatigue or oxygen needтАФinterruption leads to Vata disturbance.
7. NIDRA VEGA (URGE TO SLEEP)
Suppression causes:
Insomnia, lethargy, mental confusion, body pain, mood swings.
Sleep is a natural rejuvenator of body and mind.
8. KSHUDHA VEGA (URGE TO EAT DUE TO HUNGER)
Ignoring hunger leads to:
Agni disturbance, fatigue, weight loss, nutrient deficiency, and gastritis.
May aggravate Vata and Pitta.
9. TRISHNA VEGA (URGE TO DRINK DUE TO THIRST)
Suppression can result in:
Dryness, dizziness, confusion, burning sensation, excessive Pitta.
Water is crucial to balance Agni and maintain homeostasis.
10. SHRAMA VEGA (URGE TO REST AFTER EXERTION)
Suppression leads to:
Muscle fatigue, Vata increase, joint pain, and disturbed Prana Vata.
Physical exertion must be followed by appropriate relaxation.
11. SWEEDA VEGA (URGE TO SWEAT)
Suppression of sweat leads to:
Skin rashes, excessive heat, fever, and toxin accumulation.
Sweating helps in temperature regulation and waste removal.
12. VEGARODHA DURING RATI (SEXUAL INTERCOURSE)
Suppressing the sexual urge during coitus causes:
Genital pain, infertility, urinary disorders, psychological effects.
Disrupts Shukra dhatu and Apana Vata balance.
13. VEGARODHA OF SHOKA, KRODHA, BHAYA (EMOTIONS)
Suppression of intense emotions (grief, anger, fear) leads to:
Psychosomatic disorders, Vata imbalance, cardiac issues, mental disturbances.
Balanced emotional expression is key for mental health.
Disruption of normal physiology and homeostasis.
Aggravation of Vata dosha, which controls all movements and reflexes in the body.
Formation of Ama (toxins) and obstruction of srotas (body channels).
