    • The term "Rasayana" is derived from "Rasa" (essence or plasma) and "Ayana" (path), meaning that which enhances the quality of Rasa Dhatu.

    • Rasayana is defined as a therapy that enriches the body with superior quality Rasadhatu and promotes longevity, intellect, strength, and immunity.

    1. KUTI PRAVESHIKA RASAYANA

      • Administered after isolating the person in a specially constructed kuti (hut).

      • Involves a strict regimen and prolonged stay under supervision.

      • Considered the most potent and effective form of Rasayana.

      • Ideal for Vayasthapana (anti-aging) and boosting Ojas.

      • Administered in normal day-to-day life, without the need for isolation.

      • Suitable for individuals unable to commit to kuti stay.

      • Less potent than Kuti Praveshika but still beneficial.

    4. NAIMITTIKA RASAYANA

      • Used for specific purposes, especially during or after disease to promote recovery.

      • Acts as an adjuvant to main therapy to restore health and enhance tissue repair.

      • Example: Use of Guduchi in tuberculosis, Ashwagandha in chronic fatigue.


    PROCEDURE (PRAYOGA VIDHI)

    • Purvakarma (Preliminary measures):

      • Shodhana (Purification) is advised before Rasayana for better absorption.

      • Includes Vamana, Virechana, Basti as per prakriti and dosha predominance.

    • Pradhana Karma (Main therapy):

      • Selection of appropriate Rasayana based on age, disease, strength, and constitution.

      • Dosage and method of administration are carefully determined.

    • Pashchat Karma (Post-measures):

      • Supportive diet and lifestyle to enhance the effect.

      • Observation for signs of effectiveness and side effects.

    SHELF LIFE (AVADHI)

    • Depends on the dosage form:

      • Swarasa (Fresh juice): 3тАУ6 hours.

      • Kalka (Paste): 1 day.

      • Kwatha (Decoction): 24 hours.

      • Churna (Powder): Up to 6 months (if stored properly).

      • Leha/Ghrita/Taila: 1тАУ2 years depending on ingredients and storage.

    • Shelf life can be extended using Anupana (vehicles) and appropriate packaging.
