    In Ayurveda, Doota (messenger) is a person who is sent by the patient or relatives to convey the illness details to the physician in case the patient is unable to visit. Evaluation of Doota Lakshana is considered crucial for prognosis (Aarista Lakshana) and treatment initiation. Similarly, Mangalika Dravyas are auspicious substances whose presence signifies a favorable outcome and positive environment for treatment. These concepts are discussed in Charaka Indriya Sthana Chapter 12 Verses 71тАУ80.


    PRASHASTA DOOTA LAKSHANA

    A Prashasta Doota (auspicious messenger) is one who contributes positively to the diagnosis, prognosis, and outcome of the treatment. Characteristics of such a messenger are as follows:

    • SHARIRIKA LAKSHANAS (PHYSICAL FEATURES)

      • Clean body, neatly dressed

      • Pleasant countenance and features

      • No signs of deformity or disease

    • MANASIKA LAKSHANAS (MENTAL ATTRIBUTES)

      • Calm, balanced mind

      • Free from fear, anxiety, or confusion

      • Speaks truthfully and clearly

    • ACHARANA LAKSHANAS (BEHAVIORAL QUALITIES)

      • Polite and respectful demeanor

      • Speaks in a sweet and gentle tone

      • Answers systematically and is not aggressive

    • ADHYATMIKA LAKSHANAS (SPIRITUAL ATTRIBUTES)

      • Engages in auspicious acts

      • Possesses faith in treatment and physician

      • Free from sinful acts or thoughts

    APRASTHASTA DOOTA LAKSHANA
    Opposite characteristics of the Prashasta Doota are indicative of Aarista Lakshana (fatal prognosis).

    Mangalika Dravyas are auspicious substances/items that indicate good prognosis when encountered at the beginning or during treatment.
