Rasāyana is one of the eight branches (Aṣṭāṅga) of Ayurveda.
The term Rasāyana is derived from:
Rasa = essence/nutrient fluid
Ayana = path or movement
→ Meaning: That which facilitates the flow and enrichment of rasa dhātu in the body.
It is a specialized therapy to enhance longevity, intelligence, immunity, and vitality.
Rasāyana Karma refers to the action or effects of Rasāyana drugs and therapies on the body.
These actions are mainly rejuvenative, restorative, and promotive of overall health.
Rasāyana therapy works at the level of cellular nutrition, metabolism, and immunity.

KUTI PRĀVEŚIKA RASĀYANA
Conducted in a special, well-constructed, isolated cottage.
Ideal for elderly or diseased individuals for complete rejuvenation.
Requires strict protocol and prolonged stay.
VĀTĀTAPIKA RASĀYANA
Can be administered while the person is exposed to external environment.
More practical and suitable for common use.
Provides moderate Rasāyana effects.
ĀJĀŚRIYA RASĀYANA
Lifestyle-based Rasāyana (ethical behavior, mental discipline).
Includes Satya, Ahimsā, Brahmacharya, cleanliness, etc. to maintain health.
It emphasizes mental and social well-being.
NAIMITTIKA RASĀYANA
Disease-specific Rasāyana used along with other therapies.
Example: Mandūkaparṇī for mental disorders, Pippalī Rasāyana in tuberculosis.
Enhances quality of rasa dhātu, which leads to better quality of all subsequent dhātus.
Acts on Agni (digestive fire) and improves dhātu metabolism (dhātu agni dīpana).
