📌DEFINITION
🔸Netra Tarpanam is an Ayurvedic local treatment for the eyes, where medicated ghee or oil is retained in a boundary (made with flour paste) around the eyes for a specific duration. It nourishes, strengthens, and protects the eyes.
📌DRUGS USED
🔸Triphala ghṛita
🔸Mahatriphala ghṛita
🔸Jīvantyādi ghṛita
🔸Shatāvaryādi ghṛita
🔸Mahatiktaka ghṛita
🔸Go ghṛita (cow’s ghee)
🔸Patoladi ghṛita
📌PROCEDURE
1. Patient lies in a comfortable supine position in a quiet room.
2. A circular boundary is built around both eyes using paste of black gram flour (masha pindi).
3. Lukewarm medicated ghṛita is gently poured and retained over the eyes within the boundary.
4. Patient is instructed to keep eyes open and blink intermittently.
5. After prescribed time, ghṛita is removed and eyes are gently cleaned with cotton and warm water.

📌MUST BE AVOIDED IN
🔸Acute eye infections with pus discharge
🔸Severe conjunctivitis (redness, swelling, pain)
🔸Recent eye surgery
🔸Glaucoma (unless specially prescribed)
🔸Injury/trauma to eye
🔸Fever, severe cold, cough, or acute systemic illness
🔸Children below 7 years without medical advice
📌PRECAUTIONS
🔸Ghṛita should be fresh, medicated, and lukewarm.
🔸Avoid very hot or very cold medicines.
🔸Maintain strict hygiene during procedure.
🔸Perform in a closed room, free from wind and dust.
🔸Patient should remain still and relaxed.
🔸After procedure, avoid exposure to bright light, wind, and screen use for a few hours.
