    📌DEFINITION

    Sugandhita Chikitsa is an Ayurvedic aromatherapy-based treatment where fragrant substances (Sugandhi dravyas) are used through inhalation, fumigation, application, or anointment to balance doshas, calm the mind, and promote health.

    📌PROCEDURE

    1. Selection of fragrant dravyas according to dosha predominance and disease condition.

    2. Modes of administration:

    🔸Dhoopana (fumigation with fragrant herbs)

    🔸Anulepana (fragrant paste application)

    🔸Gandha Dharana (wearing perfumes or garlands)

    🔸Sugandha Udvartana (fragrant powder massage)

    🔸Sugandha Snana (bathing with aromatic decoctions/powders)

    🔸Sugandha Abhyanga (oil massage with aromatic oils)

    3. Duration, frequency, and dravyas selected are based on disease condition.

    📌MUST BE AVOIDED IN

    🔸Ati-pitta conditions (excessive burning sensation) with hot-virya drugs

    🔸Allergy or sensitivity to fragrances

    🔸Severe respiratory disorders (e.g., bronchial asthma during acute attack)

    🔸Migraines aggravated by strong smell

    🔸Pregnancy (with strong or toxic aromatics like agaru, karpura in excess)


    📌PRECAUTIONS IN TREATMENT

    🔸Selection of drug should be based on dosha and disease (e.g., cooling fragrances in pitta disorders, stimulating in kapha).

    🔸Avoid prolonged exposure to strong fumes.

    🔸Check for hypersensitivity or skin allergy before application.

    🔸Pregnant women, children, and elderly should be given mild forms only.

    🔸Ensure adequate ventilation during fumigation.
